1. A Discussion on How to Value Health Data
A curiosity of mine: back in my health system days a few years ago, there was a conversation about the value of data. Health system leaders seemed to conceptually think they were sitting on a treasure trove of data that was worth vast sums of money. But then when you actually tried to put a price tag on that data, there was actually very little value in it. I think about the deal that Memorial Sloane Kettering was skewered over, in part because it was giving the assets to insiders, but also in part because skepticism over fair market value. I have zero clue how fair market value would have been calculated in a deal like that for MSK. Which brings me to the question... anyone know if there is more of a generally accepted approach for valuing data assets these days?
Note: I understand there are lots of very good questions about whether one should even entertain selling / transacting this sort of data in the first place. I'm setting that question aside for the time being, assuming the conclusion to that is "yes, it's ok"
